Bostonians @ Sunset

Haven't posted a blog post in a while now .. but thought I would write one while I rot on my 5 hour plane back to the dreadfully cold east coast. Spring Break '14 was such a delightful week & I am fortunate enough to fly back to California for it. I definitely missed my family, friends, the warm sun, the good food, the beautiful beaches .. & OMG the list can go on and on. Although all of my friends still had classes during the week, they still managed to keep me company because they are all that awesome (you know who you guys are MWAAH). Wish I could have seen more people, but a week goes by within a blink of an eye. Thank goodness my parents have excellent taste in food and cute coffee places because w/o them I wouldn't even know half of the new places I tried this break. If you live in the LA area, Bestia is a MUST. My new found favorite restaurant, but make sure you make a reservation at least a month in advance because that place gets packed right when doors open at 6. From the cute interior design, to the fresh kale salad, to the homemade pastas and mouth watering desserts, this place in unquestionably my new found favorite place to eat.  During the week, I drove 3.5 hours north with  to SLO to see the best friend. Although I only got to spend one day/night there, I fell in love .. mainly because of the people & the beautiful nature. HEHEHE Makes me wonder why I chose to go to an incredibly small college. SIGH A big thank you goes out to my families for celebrating my birthday 2 weeks early with the best food & company. <3 Overall, I have come to realize that the west coast is where my heart is at & the east coast is just a temporary house for me. Can't wait until I finish my first semester of college so I could come back home in May. Hope you enjoy a couple pics from my week! & to my California friends and family, see you soon <3

#weatherconfused

Basically weather confused is the best description of my life here in the New England area. One day it could be 38 degrees and then the next can be 61 degrees and rain. There is no consistency, leaving me here looking like the typical Californian, who everyone assumes can't dress appropriately for the cold weather. It is seriously amazing how many times I get asked if I own a "jacket" or if I have ever seen wicked & mad snow (if you got my joke there ..LOL), like I come from a forever beautiful state that stays consistently 85 degrees or something. I feel like I should just make a shirt that says, "I am from California: I own a jacket & I have seen snow before!" But that would just take the fun out of bragging about how awesome California is to the people who are totally clueless. Maybe I will grow into appreciating the beautiful fall weather, but for right now, the fall weather is like my winter back home where shorts and tights were acceptable for the winter. Honestly, I have no idea how I am going to survive the cold winter days, because if I am wearing layers upon layers for the fall weather, I am most definitely going to be a hibernating bear when the snow hits and the weather drops to 20 degrees. I am just hoping and praying that this winter will be a calm & peaceful ride. But after about the second week of this cold winter, I have tried to view the cold in a more positive outlook. I finally got to pull out clothes that I would never need to wear back at home. Finally getting the chance to explore the winter clothing and touch upon all of the cute winter outfits I could possible build from my oh so small dorm room closet and drawers. Definitely not excited for the thermometer to read such horrifyingly low temperature readings, however ecstatic to pull out my creativity and open a new page in my outfit arrangements. All I can ask for the people in Massachusetts  is to not judge me and forgive me for the trial and errors I am about to perform. In the meantime, I will be very accepting of all the strange stares and constant remarks on how I am going to die because I am that one girl who wears shorts when it rains or a dress when its 38 degrees outside. I am #weatherconfused.

Woof Woof

I went out to Chinatown to go eat authentic, only Chinese speaking, legit DimSum; which was definitely mouth watering and orgasmic.  Thank you Joie for taking me and introducing me to the best ones on the dimsun cart. LOL Literally without my friend I would be one of those losers who would look like a complete lost puppy and end up paying a ridiculous amount of money for dimsum that  I wouldn't remember or know what was inside. After eating, like the cool Bostonians my friends and I, ended up in downtown crossing to attempt to only spend $10 at H&M with our Wrapp gift certificates. That $10 limit definitely didn't happen for any of us, but the thought is all that counts right? Sigh .. the fact of being a broke college student is really getting to me as my bank account simmers down closer and closer to that inevitable $0. Well anyways, I was leisurely walking through H&M not looking for anything particular, until I found the shirt that I am wearing on the top picture. It was like love at first sight, not even caring that they didn't carry my size I decided to buy that heavenly shirt and make it somehow work. I find that I have a soft spot in my heart for the ugly cute dogs like the pugs, pekinese, boston terriers, and bulldogs. Just look at the beautiful graphics of a freaking cute little vulnerable pug puppy wearing a NYC beanie. I can't even deal. I am hoping the shirt shrinks a little with wash and wear, but nevertheless I will wear that shirt like there is no end of it. Definitely my favorite graphic tee in my closet, I am sorry Brandy Melville. MEEP I think part of the reason why the little (ironic though since the medium size shirt is huge on me) pug beanie shirt is because I had to leave my Yoda back at home 2000 miles away. I actually miss all my dogs & that feeling of coming back home from school to my lazy, not the best guard dog's den, to wake them up and have them pounce on me like it was the first time they have seen me in a while. I've always been and forever will be a dog person. <3 Can't wait until December to go hug them again!
Today wasn't as awesome as yesterday's fantastic find because I was woken up by a stupid fire drill in my dorm building that looks exactly like what a hipster would imagine a treehouse. They literally screamed that stupid alarm to wake me up at 9 AM and made me walk down 8 flights of stairs to go stand out on the wet cement for 20 minutes, only to find out that it was a drill. REALLY? The building couldn't wait until like a decent time like 12 to do the drill? I don't understand. I couldn't even go back to sleep because by the time the drill was done I had to get ready for chem and chem lab, which started at 11. All I ate today was a pint of clam chowder bowl and a small salad because my classes prevent me from having a lunch or dinner at an appropriate time, ending at 3. I have learned to get full off of spoonfuls of peanut butter and Nutella. SIGH Totally not part of that healthy no freshman 15 track, but I have a feeling I am going to end up giving up soon. So I didn't end up going out again because I didn't feel like dealing with the ride situation on the way back and trying to stumble myself back into my dorm room to wake up before noon. But I am totally  hyped up for tomorrow! ..  but I am not going to share it just yet because I plan on writing my experience about it tomorrow. So for all the party people out in Boston, have fun & be safe. To all my friends in the west coast, have a good dinner? LOL i don't know ..

"Rain Rain Go Away .. "

It is official. I hate New England weather. Deciding your wardrobe for the next day is totally pointless because the weather gods over on this side of the country are very confused. I swear it was hot and humid to the point where I just wanted to stay inside the air conditioned buildings and hide from the gusts of warm air that grabbed onto my body only two days ago. Then the next the weather seems to be perfect with the sun out, no humidity, and a nice cool breeze blowing through my hair, almost comparable to the beautiful California weather in the spring time. However today was something totally different. 65 degrees with high speed winds trying to knock me down, along with a shower of rain pouring down conveniently the same time I get out of class in the morning. Walking to my 8AM Expo class, I realized there was a slightly cold breeze, not thinking that it wouldn't even dare to rain because of the beautiful weather that took place just 24 hours ago. But I was totally wrong. I didn't realize that I was coming to Boston as a typical naive California girl. All I want is the scorching flames of the sun that all my friends and family are complaining about. It blows my mind that I am dressing in leggings and a knit cardigan in the 2nd week of September, when I would normally be dressed in high waisted shorts and light tank top along with a pair of slippers on my feet while taking spontaneous trips to the beach. For all I know, tomorrow's weather might consist of blazing hot lasers cooking the city of Boston. I will never understand this unique pattern. Besides that great rant about the horrible weather, I actually had a fantastic day! I have experienced the joy of having my first cancelled class. My Bio 151 class got cancelled so I ended my school day at 9:15 in the morning. (For Californians thats even before people woke up to go to school!) I ended up eating my millionth chicken salad wrap at the school cafeteria then I headed off with my roommate to Copley Square to go shopping on Newbury Street, which is officially my favorite place in Boston. We did a little shopping for necessary things and rode the T back to our dorm room. I got my 3rd college package in the mail which was a printer from my parents! Amazingly, I made that thing work without that much assistance. It is currently 10:34 PM and my roommate is still out on Boston's "Thirsty Thursday" night and I am just listening to Justin Bieber's acoustic album while I try to study for my chem class in the morning. Well tomorrow is going to be a long day of school, so wish me luck! Goodnight Boston & have a nice dinner California. <3

I miss home ..

Life seriously just got real. Last wednesday I got on a one way plane trip to go 2000 miles away from home to start a new adventure called COLLEGE. This last week has been really hectic and crazy with trying to settle into my ridiculously small dorm room to figuring out how to ride public transportation to get out of the circle of college students. Literally as I walk out of my "treehouse" all you can see is health professionals or college students wearing their school lanyards. The fashion here is so much different from back home. Sperrys, NorthFace, and Victoria Secret yoga pants seem like the only pieces of clothing in these people's closets. I feel like with my California style I stick out like a pin in a haystack, but I guess that has good and bad points to it. At night time all I hear are college students talking and emergency sirens going back. (one of the negatives of going to school in a medical community; HEHE but good thing I am a deep sleeper) I absolutely love my roommate and get along with her so well. She is totally the opposite from me but somehow we seem to mesh our personalities very well and I am very thankful for that. I started class yesterday and I can't say that I love college just yet. It seems like regular school to me so yeah .. LOOL Although going on Boston adventures, meeting new friends, and going to various amounts of social events is crazy fun, I still have all of my family and friends in the back of my mind every day. I didn't realize how much I relied on my family and friends to keep me sane and happy. I wouldn't say I don't like being independent, but leaving everyone back home was probably the hardest thing that I had to do in my whole life, especially my mom. I miss California weather, food, and all the people back home. Just be thankful for the many things your friends and family have done for you because when the time comes for you to be independent and realize what you don't have anymore, it will be too late to appreciate it. But thank god for FaceTime, ichat, and texting. I can't wait until December to come faster! Meanwhile, I am going to try my best to do well in college with my awesome new friends and try to post more blogs .. LOL we'll see :)

Flying Alone for the First Time ..

Current Status: Nervous, Excited, Scared, Confused .. all mixed together

So im sitting in the airport all by myself waiting for my red eye flight to Boston for orientation Day 1. I have never flown on an airplane by myself ever & adding the fact that I have to explore a state that is totally on the other side of the country doesn't help my feelings either. I've been on trips without my parents when I travelled for MUN East Coast trips, but honestly doing everything completely alone is a whole different feeling. I no longer have the safety net of my parents, an advisor showing me where to go, or the comfort of my friends always being there with me. But I am so ready for the adventure! Going through the whole airport procedure wasn't as hard as I thought it would be because all of the traveling I have done throughout my life. Hopefully it will be this easy for the public transit in Boston. sigh .. Wish me luck!

Wildfox Sample Sale!

It seriously seems like forever since I last blogged about my life. I have just been exploring & having adventures with all my friends as much as I can in California.Today was actually a very exciting day! So, for a very long time I have been wanting Wildfox to be added to my closet because the clothes are the cutest ever! But I haven't got myself to buy that $250 sweater or the $100 shirt from the stores or online, so when I saw that they were having a sample sale in LA, I knew that that trip was a must! I literally woke up at 7 to get ready and be in line before the line formed, but as I walked up at 8:10 the line was already around the Cooper Design building (keeping in mind that the actual sale started at 9). It was like chaos once the building opened because all of the crazy old women who were trying to fight their way up to the Splendid warehouse sale, which had to be in the same building. Actually, there was a lot of sales in that building today; like AG jeans, Big Star, and a lot of local LA designers. Once I was able to push my way up to the third floor of the building, I finally arrived at the Wildfox sample sale. Excited isn't even half of my emotions that went through my body as I was granted entrance into the small WIldfox office space. Like every other sample sale, everything was out of place and all over the floors but honestly scramming and digging through all the clothes in the gigantic piles is part of the fun of going to sample sales! (definitely besides the amazing prices!) I was successful at my trip spending only $80 on a black star sweater and a tan loose dress with a heart in the front (thank god I am still able to fit in kids sizes!) Which would have originally been about $200 in retail stores.. After the sample sale, I went to Wood Spoon; which is a delicious brazilian restaurant in LA. I had chicken coxinha, Brazilian sausage with rice. My parents got a beet salad with a brazilian chicken pot pie, which was also to die for. Overall my summer has been very adventurous and full of success! There hasn't been a day where I haven't done something  productive or fun, so my summer is definitely going the way I want it. Can't wait for tomorrow's adventure!
